The little Pink Desktop

A companion for FIRST LOVE

FIRST LOVE needed a browser companion for managing sounds, backing up its inventory and updating firmware.

I designed the interaction model and built a working browser prototype around a small desktop, where sounds could move between the synth, a computer and an optional cloud library.

The pink desktop is the signed-in workspace, with cloud storage for patches, folders and inventory backups.

Useful without an account

No account? The desktop stays grey, and the core tools still work: organise the inventory, update firmware, and import or export sounds and backups.

Your sounds, your files

Exported LOVE files can be kept locally or shared by email, USB or AirDrop, then imported back into the Hub. Patches hold individual presets, cartridges hold a performance, and inventory backups provide full restore points.

A place to discover sounds

Patch Station lets people browse curated LOVE patches, preview a sound and copy it to FIRST LOVE. Signed-in users can also save discoveries to their cloud library.

The demo below previews that interaction. User publishing and private-link sharing are planned extensions.

One visual language

Patches remain visual objects in the browser. Dragging a sound out of the synth copies it; removing it requires an explicit delete.

Inspired by the legendary green Atari TOS desktop, I couldn’t resist borrowing its look and bringing it together with LOVE’s quirky, hand-drawn patches. We love using it—and hope others will too.

Designed through a working prototype

Building the front end let me test connection states, drag behaviour and file handling alongside the visual design. The working prototype became the handoff to engineering, carrying the interaction model into backend integration.

Try the alpha

The Sharing Hub alpha is live. Most functionality needs a connected FIRST LOVE synth.
